Sykesville: Town Council Unanimously Supports Old Robert Moton High School Museum

Sykesville Town Council Meeting April 24, 2023

Support of Old Robert Moton High School Museum (Resolution NO. 2023-04):  A Resolution Supporting the Allocation of Space at the Site of the Old Robert Moton High School for a Museum was approved unanimously by the Council which encouraging the County Commissioners’ support.

Circuit Rider: The Council discussed and unanimously approved the continued provision of supplemental pay for a dedicated Circuit Rider. The Circuit Rider administers grants such as open space and Cuny Legacy programs as well as special projects such as the splash pad, and other administrative duties.  

Public Safety Report:

Chief Spaulding attended the Maryland Municipal League Police Executive association meeting.  The Chief has been appointed to Chair of the Executive Board.

An analysis of stolen catalytic converter thefts has been completed of other counties.  This is helpful to the police to understand the trends. Our entire county has only had 17 with 1 in Sykesville.  

Chief reiterates that residents keep cars locked. There have been many stolen items from unlocked cars in recent weeks.

The police have created a new list of all businesses in Town with emergency contacts and additional information for police to notify businesses of events or concerns quickly.

Election Day is May 2nd for the 3 open Council seats.  Information can be found at https://townofsykesville.org/2259/Election-Information

An Arbor Day celebration will be held at Cooper Park, April 28, Friday at 9am to plant 5 trees.  The Town of Sykesville is now designated as a Tree City USA.

The Town has volunteer opportunities available on the Historic District Commission and Police Auxiliary.  Email town@sykesville.net for more information about volunteering with the Town.
